Aims of the Canterbury Society (from the Constitution)
The Society will be a community-based organisation, bringing together a diverse group of local citizens, with a shared sense of civic pride and community spirit, who volunteer their time to carry out activities and campaigns that aim to improve the quality of life in the city.
The Canterbury Society will be concerned with the following issues:
- Encouraging civic pride
- The built environment/architecture
- Historic heritage and tourism
- Transport, including road, rail and cycling
- Natural environment and sustainability
- Leisure facilities
- Arts and culture
- The local economy
- A fully inclusive community
- Other issues which may be added in the future
